Starting in April, the Test Pilot Program will be opening up for individuals and groups interested in participating in testing the 4th edition of Heavy Gear, Heavy Gear Universe. Test Pilots will gain early access to drafts of the rules to aid in the development of the 20th Anniversary RPG. Test Pilots will have access to the Pilot’s Lounge, a private forum exclusively for their use. In addition, we will be hosting monthly Google Hangouts with our Test Pilots to showcase new artwork and discuss ongoing development. As a member of the Test Pilots, your name will be put in the book in a special section named the Roll Call, dedicated to those who helped develop the game with us. We will be introducing additional benefits for the program as we move into different stages, such as the very limited and exclusive Test Pilot Patch.

So how do you and your group join? We’re proposing the following:

Lone Pilot ($10)

This will be for the individual or an economic option for a group to participate in the program. You will get one patch (free shipping and handling), early access to the rules in development, one private forum callsign, and one entry on the Roll Call.

Cadre ($35)

A four member test pilot group. You will get four patches (free shipping and handling to a single destination), four early access rules in development, four private forum callsigns, and four entries in the Roll Call.

Section ($40)

A five member test pilot group. You will get five patches (free shipping and handling to a single destination), five early access rules in development, five private forum callsigns, and five entries in the Roll Call.

Reinforcements ($9)

For any additional Test Pilots above Lone Pilot. Each reinforcement level includes the patch, early access to the rules in development, one private forum callsign, and one entry on the Roll Call.

Please let us know your comments below or on our facebook page. We want to hear from you! Β We will be making these packages available to purchase when the patches arrive back from the manufacturer.

Great news. I may go Lone Pilot, but I’d be looking to demo the game at one or two UK conventions. Ran 2nd Ed last year at Furnace. πŸ™‚

^_^. Always good to hear someone stroking your ego πŸ˜›

I need to get people on board for this ASAP. This game deserves to be great.

I am definitely getting in on this.

Good to see the RPG I’d going to happen!

Question: if I get the group pack but don’t have all the players yet is that an issue?

Looks like I’ve got a group of at least seven, some local others around the globe including my original playtesters all ready to jump in. Will the announcements be here only or the dp9 homepage as well when it’s ready to go?

Count me in! Just a Lone Pilot at this stage.

Been a fan since ’95 so will be looking forward to the next edition.

I have a player group of 5. We absolutely want in, and would like to purchase a Section Package, and are avid about participation.

Chances are, I’ll probably get the Lone Pilot plus a Reinforcement add-on. To be honest, I’m probably more interested in the art and the fancy patch (which I guess is based on the logo above) than the rules themselves – hope you guys don’t mind!

Definitely interested in the Lone Pilot program, and might find some members to join in later.

Will have to break out my 2nd edition books to get my head back in the setting!

When is this going to go live, the PayPal part, and can we purchase 2 Sections in case our group grows? I used to run a Heavy Gear campaign for 12 players in 1998-2000. Thanks!

We need to have our patch prototyped before we can go live. The company we’ve dealt with for years has been giving us unprecedented delays, but I’m hoping we go live next week. We’ll get the paypal tested over the weekend and pray that our patch company comes through for us.

No offense, but I could care less about the test patch. Are the patches the only reason why we aren’t testing the new rules now?

No, the patches are going to be available this week, but the plan is to make the Phase 1 rules available in April. More information to follow this Wednesday at midnight!

I’m sure this will all be detailed, but is the play testing largely going to be left to me (as the GM) as in adventures and campaigns or will dp9/arkritepress have plot items for us?

Either way I’m good, just hoping the rumor of it being close to 2nd edition is true!!

I hope it will be a mix of both, but initially we’re going to start with letting the GM run the campaign and let the players and GM give us feedback.

      1. Albertorius

If I might give an opinion, apart from letting people run their games and do feedback I’d advice you to prepare too specific, focused test “scenarios” for what you want to be tested. For example, if you want to test the lethality of the combat system, or of certain situations, prepare some scenarios for those specific situations, probably in a couple of different spectrums to assess the exact performance. That way people will have a much clearer idea of what and why they are testing.

        1. Lee McDonough

My thoughts were the same, being a gm/player from since ’98, I was going to setup specfic scenarios and adventures to test each area a player can play. But, if I may be so bold to suggest sharing each other’s sessions and testing ideas?

  11. John Merrill

My group of five players is interested in the Section ($40) option and play testing the new system. We are running a long term campaign on Terra Nova right now, set in the Southern Republic. One of my players wanted to know if the new system is as lethal as 2nd Edition Heavy Gear? (His mechanic character was on the bad end of a firefight and had to spend a game session in the hospital.) Thank you for your continued work and your time.

  12. Capraphract

What’s the chance of having test rules available by the first week of May? I have a rare opportunity to get the crew together for some gaming. Fully cognizant of the fact that may be a complete unknown at this point.
